Interloop Organic Kapas (ILOK) Project, has achieved InConversion Organic cotton (IC1) certification provided by the control UnionSri Lanka. In collaboration with Lok Sanjh Foundation, we are implementing the Interloop Organic Kapas project (ILOKP) with 2000 farmers coving area of 10138 Acre in southern Punjab, The transition to organic farming, a sustainable way forward as cotton farming, is critical to the economic wellbeing of communities in Pakistan and worldwide.
At Interloop, sustainability is a recognized concern and holds the highest priority for the healthy growth of society and for protecting the planet. Being a pledge of UN SDG, the ILOK initiative is not only trying to secure the natural fertility of land but also to improve the livelihoods of farmers and build farmer capacity while reducing our environmental footprint by boosting the supply of local organic cotton production. ILOK will improve the availability and digital traceability of organic cotton and build the capacity of female cotton pickers on best picking practices to minimize the trash. IC1 certification assures that the identity of the organic content is maintained from the farm to the final product, auditing each stage in the supply chain.
Our aim is to have 70% of our materials come from sustainable sources by 2025 (55% was the target, and achieved 70% for 2022). We have already achieved that, and we will continue to work hard to maintain and improve the numbers. Our sustainable materials include BCI cotton, organic cotton, recycled cotton, recycled polyester, and recycled nylon. We have also signed up for the textile exchanges 100% sustainable cotton challenge by 2025.
